Your Brain Matters(TM) Yoga Program

Your Brain Matters(TM) Yoga program offers therapeutic movement and meditation to support people who have been affected by Traumatic Brain Injury. A traumatic brain injury is defined as being caused by a blow or impact to the head that results in disturbances of the brain’s function. Each TBI is unique, and presents differently depending on many factors such as the area of the brain the injury occurred, the severity, and the person’sage.
TBI’s can cause a variety of symptoms, often because these symptoms are not visible to an observer, a TBI can also be labelled an “invisible injury”. People who have experienced a TBI can feel frustrated, or misunderstood because how they feel is very real. Your Brain Matters yoga offers a space for those who have experienced a TBI and tailors the yoga class to cater to some of these symptoms, such as :
– Noise/Light Sensitivity
– Balance or Vestibular issues
– Dizziness
– Muscle Tension/Neck Injury
This program is a 6 week program offering one 90 minute class per week. Classes focus on
– Themes that promote COMPASSION to oneself, and others
– Fostering RESILIENCE through a yoga and meditation practice
– Launching a sense of EMPOWERMENT to adapt positively to lifestyle changes
– Creating a sense of COMMUNITY for those affected by TBI through facilitated group
discussions
Why Attend Your Brain Matters Yoga’s 6 Week Program?
Research has shown that yoga and meditation have many healing benefits for TBI, and can change the function, as well as structure of the brain. Through research, evidence has shown that consistent practice of yoga and meditation can enhance Strength, Flexibility, Balance and Endurance. People recovering from a traumatic brain injury find it difficult to return to the sports, or physical activities they used to perform. Yoga can offer a form of physical exercise, leading to positive benefits for the brain and the body.

The sense of community offered in this program brings together people experiencing similar challenges and emotions. The reassurance of finding someone who shares similar experiences can bring positivity during your recovery.

Cost: $120 for 6 weeks (classes 90 minutes)
Come and experience therapeutic movement and meditation and gain the tools and techniques that lead to a more positive recovery. Your Brain Matters Yoga offers a scholarship program for one student. The recipient of this scholarship will have a portion of their fees covered, and selection will be based on individual experiences and circumstances. Classes of six will be taught and facilitated by Julie Fasan, creator of Your Brain Matters Yoga Program. Julie is an RMT of 22 years, Yoga Instructor, and LoveYourBrain yoga certified to teach yoga to the TBI community. Her interests of study are in concussions, the autonomic nervous system, and the diaphragm.
